Sie liegt s\u00fcdwestlich von Kingston am Eingang des Sankt Laurence Stroms. Von Belleville aus ist es dorthin nicht allzu weit, und als ich das lange Kanada Day Wochenende mal wieder dort verbracht habe, habe ich die Gelegenheit genutzt, um die Insel mit dem Fahrrad zu erkunden.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\" \" src=\"\/wp-content\/Bilder\/Blog\/2026\/L1020162.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"352\" \/><\/p>\n<p><\/br><\/p>\n<p>Auf die Insel geht es mit der <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leclanche.com\/etude-cas\/damen\/\">Amherst Islander II<\/a>, einer F\u00e4hre, die voll elektrisch fahren kann. <\/p>\n<p>Anders als bei anderen F\u00e4hren, gibt es ein Ansaugsystem, welches die F\u00e4hre in einer bestimmten Position h\u00e4lt, damit ein Arm mit Stromanschluss an die F\u00e4hre andocken kann, um deren Akkus w\u00e4hrend des Ein- und Ausladens mit Energie zu versorgen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n<p style=\"clear:both\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\" \" src=\"\/wp-content\/Bilder\/Blog\/2026\/L1020161.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"352\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"clear:right\" title=\" \" src=\"\/wp-content\/Bilder\/Blog\/2026\/L1020163.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"352\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n<p>Schon von weiten zu sehen, fallen sofort die <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naturalforces.ca\/projects\/amherst-community-wind-farm\/\">26 Windturbinen<\/a> auf, die gr\u00fcnen Strom erzeugen. Nat\u00fcrlich gab es erst einmal Widerstand von einigen der etwas \u00fcber 400 Einwohnern der Insel. Mittlerweile aber l\u00e4uft das Projekt, und die Turbinen sind akzeptiert.<\/p>\n<p>Gr\u00fcne Energie passt auch sehr gut zu den Unternehmen auf der Insel, die unter anderem Decken und Kleider aus echter Schafswolle produzieren.<\/p>\n<p>Es gibt auf der Insel viele Dry Stone Walls nach irischem Vorbild. Diese Mauern wurden im 19. Jahrhundert von Einwanderern mit traditionellen Methoden errichtet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\" \" src=\"\/wp-content\/Bilder\/Blog\/2026\/L1020138.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"352\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"clear:right\" title=\" \" src=\"\/wp-content\/Bilder\/Blog\/2026\/L1020134.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"352\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n<p>An der S\u00fcdk\u00fcste verl\u00e4uft die Stra\u00dfe direkt am Wasser, und es ist sp\u00fcrbar ein paar Grad k\u00fchler. Au\u00dferdem gibt es viele Stellen, wo sich der Radler im See abk\u00fchlen kann.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\" \" src=\"\/wp-content\/Bilder\/Blog\/2026\/L1020141.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"352\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"clear:right\" title=\" \" src=\"\/wp-content\/Bilder\/Blog\/2026\/L1020152.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"352\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n<p style=\"clear:both\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"float: right\" src=\"\/wp-content\/Bilder\/Blog\/2026\/L1020157.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"352\" \/><\/p>\n<p><\/br><br \/>\nIn Sicht- (und auch Schwimm-) Weite ist Nut Island. <\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amherst Island ist eine Insel im Ontariosee.
