Der Name klingt nach Insel und damit irgendwie nach Ferien und Entspannung. Umso entt\u00e4uschter war ich, als ich dann wirklich mal Long Island \/ New York besuchte. Long Island  ist zu gr\u00f6\u00dften Teil nichts weiter als ein Vorort von New York City, wo die Menschen genauso wohnen und aggressiv sind wie in jeder anderen gro\u00dfen Stadt. Nichtsdestrotz gibt es auf Long Island aber auch jede Menge richtig sch\u00f6ne Ecken. Hier sind ein paar davon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:right\">\n<p style=\"clear: right;\"><strong>Old Westbury Gardens<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Old_Westbury_Gardens\">Old Wesbury Gardens<\/a> wurde von dem Investor John S. Phipps erbaut, 1906 fertiggestellt, und er und seine Nachkommen lebten dort mehr als 50 Jahre lang, bevor es schlie\u00dflich f\u00fcr die \u00d6ffentlichkeit zug\u00e4nglich wurde. Eine Reihe Filme wurden hier gedreht, wie z.B. Das kommt vor allem daher, weil er im unmittelbarer N\u00e4he der New York City Metropolitan Area ein stark bev\u00f6lkertes Einzugsgebiet hat. Der Park ist vor allem wegen seines 16 Kilometer langen Strandes an der Atlantikk\u00fcste bekannt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\"><a title=\" \" rel=\"lightbox[LongIsland]\" href=\"wp-content\/HiResGallery\/2012\/IMGP7340.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\" \" src=\"wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMGP7340_small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:right\"><a title=\" \" rel=\"lightbox[LongIsland]\" href=\"wp-content\/HiResGallery\/2012\/IMGP7349.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"clear:right\" title=\" \" src=\"wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMGP7349_small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n<p style=\"clear: both\"><strong>Big Duck<\/strong><br \/>\nDie <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Big_Duck\">gro\u00dfe Ente<\/a> ist so etwas wie das Wahrzeichen Long Islands. Erbaut von dem Farmer Martin Maurer vor mehr als 80 Jahren als Werbung f\u00fcr seine Entenfarm, beherbergt die Ente heute einen Andenkenladen. <\/p>\n<p>Aus heutiger Sicht nichts besonderes mehr, war die gro\u00dfe Ente der Prototyp einer Werbung durch ein Geb\u00e4ude in der Form des zu vermarktendes Produktes. Damit ist sie eines der ersten Beispiele f\u00fcr die <a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phantastische_Architektur\">Phantastische Architektur<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:right\"><a title=\" \" rel=\"lightbox[LongIsland]\" href=\"wp-content\/HiResGallery\/2012\/IMGP7370.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\" \" src=\"wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMGP7370_small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:right\"><a title=\" \" rel=\"lightbox[LongIsland]\" href=\"wp-content\/HiResGallery\/2012\/IMGP7376.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"clear:right\" title=\" \" src=\"wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMGP7376_small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n<p style=\"clear: right;\"><strong>Montauk Point<\/strong><br \/>\nGanz im Osten Long Islands gibt es dann doch noch ein paar State Parks mit viel Natur.
