Bekannt ist dieser Teil Nordamerikas vor allem durch die B\u00fccher Stephen Kings. Stephen King lebt in Maine, und die Landschaft Neu Englands dient ihm immer wieder als Kulisse f\u00fcr seine spannenden Horrorgeschichten. Und wer wei\u00df denn auch mit Sicherheit zu sagen, was alles in den endlosen W\u00e4ldern lebt oder mit dem Morgennebel vom Atlantik hereinkommt? <\/p>\n<p>Naja, so schlimm ist es nicht. Und wer sich f\u00fcr seinen n\u00e4chsten Urlaub nicht f\u00fcr Meer oder Berge entscheiden kann, hat in Neu England beides innerhalb weniger hundert Kilometer und jeweils ziemlich spektakul\u00e4r. Aber man kann die \u00dcberreste einer Eisenproduktion auf dem 19. Jahrhundert besichtigen, und au\u00dferdem trifft hier der Appalachian Trail auf einen der vielen &#8222;Grand Canyon of the East&#8220;. <\/p>\n<p>Um auf den Trail zu kommen, muss man erst einmal zwei Fl\u00fcsse durchqueren. Danach wird es teilweise so steil, dass man H\u00e4nden und F\u00fc\u00dfen braucht, um voranzukommen. Daf\u00fcr gibt es dann aber auch einige spektakul\u00e4re Wasserf\u00e4lle zu bewundern.<\/p>\n<p>Auf dem Appalachian Trail ist einiges los, und man trifft auf viele Wanderer, die hier schon 2000 Kilometer seit Georgia unterwegs sind. Arcadia liegt auf einer <a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mount_Desert_Island\">Insel <\/a>vor der K\u00fcste Maines, die aber \u00fcber eine Br\u00fccke an das Festland angeschlossen ist.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nJohn D. Rockefeller Jr. hatte viel Geld von seinem Vater geerbt, und war zum einen von der Natur der Insel beeindruckt, andererseits aber auch vom Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts aufkommenden Stra\u00dfenbau. Daher startete er 1913 ein Projekt, dass sich bis 1940 hinzog. Stra\u00dfen f\u00fcr Pferde und Kutschen wurden auf Arcadia gebaut, und der Bau wurde von Rockefeller pers\u00f6nlich \u00fcberwacht.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nDa Pferdekutschen nicht mehr so \u00fcblich sind, hat sich Arcadia zu einem fantastisches Revier f\u00fcr Fahrradfahrer entwickelt. Die alten Kutschenwege sind f\u00fcr Fahrradfahrer aller Grade optimal geeignet. Gr\u00f6\u00dftenteils felsig, aber es gibt trotzdem viele Sandstr\u00e4nde. F\u00fcr einen Badeurlaub ist das Wasser allerdings etwas zu kalt und das Wetter zu unbest\u00e4ndig. Viele sehr betuchte Amerikaner haben hier ihr Sommerdomizil, unter anderem auch George Bush Sr.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: right;\">\n<p><strong>Portland<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Portland_%28Maine%29\">Portland<\/a> ist mit 64,000 Einwohnern die gr\u00f6\u00dfte Stadt Maines und eine der \u00e4ltesten St\u00e4dte in Nordamerika. Hier kann man ohne weiteres einen Tag verbringen und sich der Atmosph\u00e4re des Old Port hingeben.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n<p style=\"clear:both\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\" \" src=\"wp-content\/Bilder\/NeuEngland\/IMGP4385.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"365\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"clear:right\" title=\" \" src=\"wp-content\/Bilder\/NeuEngland\/IMGP4397.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"365\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n<p><strong>White Mountain<\/strong><br \/>\nDer Norden von Neu England hat nicht nur eine abwechslungsreiche K\u00fcste zu bieten, sondern auch eine interessante Berglandschaft. Und die Frankonia Notch ist genau das. Sie ist so eng, dass die gro\u00dfe Interstate 93 und die ruhigere US-3 zusammengelegt werden mussten. Damit auch Fahrradfahrer die atemberaubende Durchfahrt zwischen den Bergen erleben k\u00f6nnen, wurde zus\u00e4tzlich noch eine asphaltierte Fahrradroute gebaut.  \u00dcber sie erreicht man bequem die Naturwunder des <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhstateparks.org\/explore\/state-parks\/franconia-notch-state-park.aspx\">Frankonia Notch State Park<\/a> wie den Profile Lake, den Cannon Mountain oder die Flume Gorge mit ihren spektakul\u00e4ren Wasserf\u00e4llen.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n<p style=\"clear:both\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\" \" src=\"wp-content\/Bilder\/NeuEngland\/IMGP5500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"365\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"clear:right\" title=\" \" src=\"wp-content\/Bilder\/NeuEngland\/IMGP5184.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"365\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n<p>Eine der sch\u00f6nsten Strecken in Neu England ist der <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kancamagushighway.com\/\">Kancamagus Highway<\/a> zwischen Lincoln und Conway. Vom 914 hohen Kancamagus Pass hat man einen tollen Ausblick, und \u00fcberall an der Strecke gibt es Parkpl\u00e4tze mit Zugang zum Swift River.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n<p style=\"clear:both\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\" \" src=\"wp-content\/Bilder\/NeuEngland\/IMGP4455.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"365\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"clear:right\" title=\" \" src=\"wp-content\/Bilder\/NeuEngland\/IMGP4659.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"365\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"clear:both\">\n<p style=\"clear: both;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mount_Washington_%28New_Hampshire%29\">Mount Washington<\/a> ist mit 1917 Metern der h\u00f6chste Berg in den White Mountains.
